In extreme heat, it can be difficult to provide our plants with enough water. While our typical methods might not suffice, there are certain things you can do to keep them happy. Follow these hacks if you want to keep your plants happy and healthy during hot weather spells:

1. Water early or late

When you water, the best time is either very early or very late. This way, you can reduce evaporation associated with the heat of the daylight.

2. Focus on the soil

There are times when you simply cannot do anything but water during the day. If so, the least you can do is focus on watering the soil instead of the plants. In case you are wondering why the droplets can scorch the leaves and other parts of the plant.

3. Pour at the base

When watering, pour the water at the base of the borders and pots. This ensures that the leaves will not serve as an umbrella. Instead, soak the base of the plant to get the most out of the water you use.

4. Place saucers below

Save and reuse water by placing saucers below the plant pots. Water that runs through the pot will wind up there, after which it can be used by the roots.

5. Add gravel over the pots

This is a good way to ensure moisture conservation. However, make sure to first water the soil before adding stones or gravel for the best possible result.

6. Move them into the shade

When there is space in a shaded part of the garden, make sure to relocate as many plant pots to that area as you can accommodate. This is going to ensure that your plants need less water, compared to when they are exposed to direct sunlight.
